West Oxfordshire District Council

West Oxfordshire is a District made up of many diverse and separate communities, ranging from small hamlets to significant towns. It is a very beautiful area, with a rich natural and architectural heritage, enjoying a high quality of life. It is a relatively affluent area, with a thriving economy and high levels of employment.

However, no one should be complacent. Not everybody who lives or works in the District enjoys all these benefits. There is also room for improvement; even though our quality of life is high it can be further improved. That quality of life also needs protection. Economies, environments and social conditions can all deteriorate as well as improve, and the Council needs to be watchful against that risk.

The Council believes that its prime purpose should thus be to protect and enhance the quality of life of all the individuals and communities within the District. That is the Council's overriding vision or goal.
