Sustainable living is about people, the building, the architecture and the environment, and most importantly the ability to live with us and for us. To evolve and adapt as we do.

At VELUX, we have long held the belief that there are three main aspects to sustainable living. And they work in conjunction with each other to create a healthy building for its occupants over its lifetime.

As humans we need fresh air and daylight when we are indoors. It has a positive effect on our health and well being, as well as our ability to learn.

Buildings represent 40% and homes 27% of all C02 emissions

To address climate change and reduce the global energy consumption it is crucial to consider using renewable energy sources as part of the solution.

The holistic solution

To reach the global objective of C02 reduction, we need to examine a future model that addresses these challenges as a holistic solution. The aim of future construction is to consider the energy use during construction and in subsequent use of buildings, and to create an efficient building envelope with technology and design, without compromising the highest standards of indoor comfort and health.

To be truly sustainable a home has to be flexible enough to cope with both lifestyle and technological changes - to create a balance between energy design and the liveability factor. If a building can provide variety of shelter, health and well being, and minimise its impact on the environment whilst creating excitement in its delivery, then it has the best chance of survival.
