Ramblers

Welcome to the Ramblers on ePolitix.com.

The Ramblers is the charity at the heart of walking in Britain. We work to make it easy for everyone to walk, whether in countryside, cities, hills, the coast, and on or off the beaten track.

We are experts on all things walking. We are a grass roots network of over 12,000 volunteers who work tirelessly for a walking Britain. For 75 years we have helped build and protect Britain’s 150,000 mile path network, we run over 28,000 walks a year, and we campaign for better walking routes and more walking opportunities. We are Britain’s walking charity.

Walking is the greenest, cheapest, most pleasurable activity around, and Britain is one of the world’s most walking friendly nations. Everyone from toddlers to grandparents, city strollers to seasoned hikers, can enjoy the benefits of walking because everyone’s a walker.

Every week Ramblers volunteers organise hundreds of group walks all over Great Britain, ranging from short local strolls to bracing hillside treks. Details of most of our walks are listed online. To find a local walk or your local Ramblers' group, please go to the Ramblers' Walkfinder pages at: http://www.ramblers.org.uk/areas_groups/groupswalksfinder.htm.

The Ramblers want walking for fun, transport, and well-being to be a part of everyday life.

We believe that

  • Our unique paths network is vital for leisure, transport, tourism and the health of our rural and urban communities. It needs to be treasured, protected, and strengthened for the wellbeing of this and future generations.
  • Walking can play a big part in solving this century’s challenges of obesity, inactivity, climate change and social alienation.
  • Walking off the beaten track in open countryside, the coast, hills and wild open spaces should be encouraged and enjoyed by all.
  • Walking is for everyone- no matter your age, experience or ability.

Our two key current campaigns are:

Get Walking Day on 30th May 2009 and

Support for the provision of an all English coastal path in the Marine and Coastal Access Bill.
