DODS energy and climate change reception in association with Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA)

On Monday 30th March DODS hosted an energy and climate change reception in association with Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA).

The reception was designed to mark the launch of The House Magazine’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) supplement in association with the NWDA.

Steven Broomhead, chief executive of the NWDA said the creation of DECC recognised the increasingly high profile of energy and climate change on both the national and international stage. He commented that the NWDA along with the other RDAs would look forward “to a strong and effective regular dialogue” with DECC.

Broomhead said, “It is very important that we aren’t sidetracked from the energy and climate change agenda by the economic downturn. The Northwest leader also made the link between the green agenda and economic recovery. He added, “Moving to a low carbon economy is the way to build economic recovery as well as sustaining the planet.”

Dr Des Turner MP, Vice-chair of the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee also spoke at the reception. Dr Turner said he was “very happy” to see the formation of the Department of Energy and Climate Change and that it would bring about a “step change” in the government’s approach to the way the issues were handled.

Dr Turner argued that the new Department was “probably more important in government than the Treasury […] and the problems DECC is charged with dealing with will be major concerns long after we have forgotten the financial crisis that is rocking the world right now.”

The second year of the DODS Nuclear Dialogue Group was also formally launched at the reception. For more information, please visit epolitix.com/nuclear.
