National Savings and Investments

NS&I has been a constant in the financial services market place since 1861 and is one of the largest savings organisations in the UK. We are also a government department and executive agency of the Chancellor of the Exchequer. NS&I offers savings and investment products to personal savers and investors. The money placed with us contributes towards the Government's financing needs and is used by the Treasury to help manage the national debt cost effectively.

When customers invest with NS&I they are lending money to the Government, which pays them interest in return. All our savings and investment products are government securities, which puts them in a special category and makes them the most secure cash deposits available in the UK market. NS&I continues to maintain its popularity amongst savers with 28 million customers

Our mission
Our overall aim is to help reduce the cost to the taxpayer of government borrowing now and in the future.  With this in mind, our single strategic objective is to provide the government with cost-effective retail finance compared with raising funds on the wholesale market.

Our values
When people think of NS&I we want them to associate us with:
Security: we offer a promise of 100% security, backed by HM Treasury.
Straightforwardness: we always use clear, everyday language that is easy to understand
Integrity: we are honest and responsible in everything we do and say
Delivered with a human touch: we treat our customers as individuals and recognise their needs
Financial Capability: NS&I is committed to providing objective financial information as well as helping people to manage their investments in uncertain financial markets

Our strategy
Our new strategy, 'NS&I adding value', was launched in April 2007.  The new strategy plans to deliver sustainable long-term value to stakeholders and customers by simplifying, modernising and diversifying the business as a whole. These themes will be the basis of all NS&I activities, which are intended to drive the business forward and shape our strategic value.
