South Wales
Steve Connor is currently putting the finishing touches to the FCA event on Tuesday 28th October which is likely to be a lively and energetic affair! FCA have been consistent supporters and participants in National Care Leavers' Week since it began and are continuing to work in partnership with Local Authorities to try and find effective solutions to help their young people to move on successfully.
Cornwall
Action for Children (formerly NCH) are arranging two local muti-agency lunch time workshops, one in Penzance on Monday 27th and the other in Bodmin on Wednesday 29th October. Cornwall County Council are organising some ice-skating(!) for Cornish care leavers at the Eden Project on 28th October. Cornwall County Council and Action for Children have a strong partnership that has helped deliver the most improved Leaving Care Services in the country.
Sheffield
Sheffield last year carried out a 'life swap'day with local councilors to give them an opportunity to learn what life after care was really like. This year Participation Worker Niki Lyne will be strengthening the corporate parenting message encouraging all sections of the authority to own their part of responsibility for their corporate children.
South West
Year 11 Care Leavers in the FCA South West region attended a residential weekend called 'The Longest Day' during which essential skills for leaving care were learned this summer.
Do send us details of your events, what you did, what you hoped to achieve, and how it went! Examples of good practice in leaving care can inspire and support other teams to improve and we will include your service on this site if you send us your details. All teams that contribute an account of their NCLW event that has been written by a young person will receive a free voucher for a day’s paintballing!
