    The LSN Big Debate 2010

The spending squeeze: Who bears the cost?

    Monday 5 July, 5.30pm

Each year LSN hosts a big debate, at which we discuss the key issues facing education and skills today. Click here to register now for this year's event. Admission is free.

We are now entering a new era for education and skills funding, and as the first wave of £6.25 billion cuts send a shock wave through public services, this year's event asks how we can maintain a focus on stimulating growth and innovation whilst engineering reductions in public funding.

LSN's 2010 Big Debate asks the question: who bears the cost?

Hear from key speakers as they debate the extent of the current funding challenges and what they mean for learning and skills, further education and the public sector.

    Speaker Panel

Chair: Alan Thomson – Deputy Editor, Times Educational Supplement

    Ioan Morgan, Principal Warwickshire College
    Tom Wilson – Director, UnionLearn
Colin Talbot – Professor of Public Policy and Management, Manchester Business School (provisional)

This is your chance to get involved – there will be plenty of time for debating the issues and opinions presented on the night, and the post-debate drinks reception will allow you plenty of time to connect with your peers in the learning and skills field.

Admission – including a post-debate drinks reception – is free. Click here to register now.

    Who should attend?

College and school leaders, education leaders at local authorities, CEO's of agencies, business organisations, teachers and student organisations – in fact, anyone with an interest in how the education and skills sector will need to improve services under increased budgetary pressures.
