Council Wards

The City of Kingston upon Hull is divided into twenty three wards for electoral purposes. Each ward elects two or three Councillors, giving a total of fifty nine.


Council Elections are held in the Spring, in three out of four years. Normally, one Councillor from each ward is elected in a year. Once elected, a Councillor usually serves for four years before standing for re-election.


Membership of the Council as at 16 September 2004 currently comprises:

  • Labour Group (27)
  • Liberal Democrat Group (21)
  • Hull Independents (3)
  • Liberal Group (3)
  • Conservative & Unionist Group (2)
  • Independent Members (2)
