General Teaching Council

The General Teaching Council for England (GTC) is the independent professional and regulatory body for teaching in England. It exists to support teachers in their efforts to offer children and young people high quality teaching that meets their needs and enables them to learn and thrive.

The GTC's unique contribution is to bring teachers to work in partnership with all those who have an interest in teaching to develop policies that will support and sustain a healthy and effective profession.
