General Social Care Council (GSCC) annual reception
Where now for social work? How can we deliver improvements in the sector?

The reception is being hosted by Baroness Pitkeathley. Ed Balls MP, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families will make a short contribution and Phil Hope, Minister for Care Services has been invited. Both will be speaking on the reforms being developed by Government to strengthen social work. A social worker will also share with us their personal experience of the rewards and challenges they face in their job.
Social Work Connections
In May 2008 the GSCC launched a new quarterly online newsletter for registered social workers titled ‘Social Work Connections’. The newsletter contains latest news and information about social work and the GSCC, surveys and interactive opinion boards.

Autumn party conferences – GSCC fringe events
The GSCC is holding fringe events at the Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat party conferences in autumn 2008 jointly with the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) and Age Concern England. At these meetings speakers will be examining the challenges of personalising care for older people. These events are free to attend and refreshments will be served.

The GSCC will be holding its Annual Conference on Wednesday 14 October 2009 at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster, central London. Places must be reserved in advance.
