Mental Capital and Wellbeing
Bill Rammell MP, Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education at the Department for Education and Skills is the sponsor Minister for the Foresight project on Mental Capital and Wellbeing. Sir David King, the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Government is the project Director.
Project aim:
"To produce a challenging and long-term vision for maximising mental capital and mental wellbeing in the UK in the twenty first century - both for the benefit of society, and for the individual."
Project Objectives:
- To use the best science and evidence from across a wide range of disciplines to identify and analyse the most important drivers affecting mental capital and mental wellbeing in the future
- To identify the future challenges and needs for maximising mental capital and wellbeing
- To build on this evidence to identify and analyse interventions for meeting the challenges identified - in so doing, the project will consider the possible role of government, non-governmental stakeholders, and individuals
Project outputs will include: - The evidence base for the project's analysis - this will include scientific reviews; modelling studies; and the result of expert consultation
- Visions of the future - underpinned by an understanding of the key drivers
- Analysis of policy options for key challenges
- A plan of action to take forward the findings of the project involving leading stakeholders
Project process:
- The scope of the project will be worked up between October 2006 and January 2007
- The evidence base for the analysis (including reviews and modelling studies) will be collected and analysed between January 2007 and January 2008
- The findings will be launched in the summer of 2008
