This month, Edexcel is co-hosting party conference fringe events with the New Statesman. The events, Lessons for now: unlocking pupils’ talent, will consider how school students of all abilities can be best supported in their education.
Speakers include Schools Minister Jim Knight MP, Shadow Schools Minister Nick Gibb MP, and Edexcel’s Managing Director, Jerry Jarvis.

This month, Edexcel worked with the Westminster Education Forum to hold a seminar called Testing Times: the Future of Testing and Assessment. Held at a Westminster venue, the seminar featured contributions from Graham Stuart MP, member of the Children, Schools and families Select Committee, Professor Paul Black from King's College London, and Isabel Nisbet, Acting Chief Executive of the new Ofqual regulator. On 23rd April, Edexcel took part in the Parliamentary launch of VQ Day, a national celebration of vocational qualifications. With an estimated 17 million people in the UK holding a vocational qualification, VQ Day has been created to raise public awareness of the value of vocational learning. The first VQ Day takes place on 23rd July 2008 with a national event in London as well as regional events held by colleges and learning providers around the country. Earlier in the month, Edexcel and the CBI launched Taking Stock, a report on the CBI's latest education and skills survey. The report was launched at the CBI's headquarters by Jerry Jarvis, Edexcel's Managing Director, and Bill Rammell MP, Minister for Lifelong Learning. For more information, visit www.cbi.org.uk.

On 26th March, Edexcel was pleased to sponsor a Parliamentary reception to celebrate ten years of the Helena Kennedy Foundation. The Foundation tackles social injustice by supporting disadvantaged people to pursue their education. This month's public affairs highlight was a meeting of the Education Forum at Edexcel's offices. The Forum comprises senior representatives of teacher unions and professional associations, who meet with Edexcel directors on a regular basis to discuss national issues and Edexcel's activities.
