Research
e-skills UK has become the UK's focal point for world class information on technology business trends and the demand and supply of IT skills.
Our research is used by business, national and regional government, education, the media and other organisations. It informs everything from government policy to business recruitment campaigns and training. It also provides a robust evidence base for our own programmes.
Latest research – Technology Counts
In 2008, we published a suite of ground breaking research reports looking at the key trends, opportunities and challenges facing the UK's IT & Telecoms sector and workforce, and identifying the implications for skills. This research includes:
• 'Technology Counts' – an invaluable overview of the main trends, opportunities and challenges facing the UK in terms of IT & Telecoms and the UK's skills base.
• An analysis of trends in technology and what they mean for skills.
• Employer surveys to assess current and future skills needs, recruitment plans, skills shortages and gaps.
• Detailed profiles of the UK's technology workforce and technology-based companies – with international comparisons.
• Employment forecasts to 2016.
• An analysis of the impact of IT on business productivity and competitiveness.
• A review of technology training in the UK.

The major research programmes are complemented by regular research publications and specially commissioned research. These include:

• The e-skills Bulletin – an independent, quarterly summary of published technology labour market data and trends.
• The Telecoms Bulletin – a regular update on the telecoms labour market.
Commissioned research includes the 2008 international benchmark study into Women in IT and the 2009 Northern Ireland Snapshot.
