Keeping up with what children and young people are doing on the Internet can be challenging for parents and carers.
Internet safety was the focus of the Byron Review in 2008, and the December 2009 launch of the UKCCIS Strategy has increased the attention paid to this topic. With a new Government public awareness campaign designed to target parents on this important topic, this may be something that your constituents ask you about.
Childnet have produced a series of leaflets and online resources with the support of partners including the DCSF, UKCCIS, TDA and Becta to provide simple and easy to use guidance for parents, carers, teachers and young people on staying safe on the Internet.

Know IT All for Parents: An interactive internet safety resource that contains helpful videos and activities. This award-winning resource contains the latest advice on cyberbullying and reporting. The essential internet safety 'Quick overview' section has been translated into Arabic, Bengali, Gujarati, Mandarin, Polish, Punjabi, Urdu, Welsh and is also available in BSL. Know IT All for Primary Schools features the award winning cartoon, The Adventures of Kara, Winston and the SMART Crew. This animation illustrates Childnet's SMART rules and includes advice from a real life SMART Crew of young people who guide the cartoon characters in their quest and help them make smart online decisions. This film is designed for use in primary schools, but is ideal for parents concerned about how to help their children stay safe on the Internet to watch and discuss with their children. www.childnet.com/kia/primary.
Digizen is Childnet's website for teens providing information and advice to encourage responsible digital citizenship. At Childnet when we think about digital citizenship, we focus on encouraging the development and growth of safe and secure users of technology, who are able to make informed choices and valuable contributions online that benefit and inspire themselves, other users and the digital community. Digizen shares advice and guidance on preventing and responding to cyberbullying including the film 'Let's Fight It Together' produced for the DCSF and specific information on social networking. http://www.digizen.org/.
KidSMART is the award winning Childnet website for children (7-13's), teachers, parents & carers. Chatdanger is a site for teenagers that shares advice on how to stay safe while chatting online; it gives real life accounts and informs about the potential dangers on interactive services like chat, IM, online games, email and mobiles.
