United Church School Trust agrees union recognition
22 September 2008
The United Church School Trust (UCST) has agreed a voluntary recognition agreement with the main education unions.
The five unions are the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL), Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT), National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT), and the National Union of Teachers (NUT).
The agreement means teachers working at any of the UCST independent schools will benefit from professional union staff negotiating terms and conditions on their behalf. The agreement starts from September 2008 and covers all teachers directly employed by UCST - with the exception of peripatetic and supply teachers, and temporary teachers employed on a contract of less than one term.
John Richardson, National Official (Independent schools) for ATL and the union servicing secretary said: “We are delighted to have reached this union recognition agreement with the United Church Schools Trust. This new accord will enable us to work together in partnership for the benefit of the staff and schools alike.”
The UCST runs ten schools in England:
Arnold School, Lancashire
Ashford School, Kent
Bramcote Lawn School, Nottinghamshire
Brigg Preparatory School, North Lincolnshire
Guildford High School, Surrey
Hampshire Collegiate School, Hampshire
Hull Collegiate School, East Yorkshire
Lincoln Minster School, Lincolnshire
Sunderland High School, Sunderland
Surbiton High School, Surrey
