9 October 2008
Unite, the UK's largest trade union, today welcomed the statement by the Transport Secretary, Geoff Hoon MP, to approve planning permission to increase air traffic at Stansted.
Unite national officers Brian Boyd and Steve Turner said, "The Government has made a good decision today. Continuous improvements to the UK transport infrastructure, including increasing capacity at Stansted Airport is crucial to the economy and the many thousands of jobs that depend on an efficient transport network.
This type of development reinforces the commitment shown by the Labour Government to re- establish the UK as a major hub for aviation worldwide, and gives workers confidence in the future of their industry".
