Unite reaction to BAe’s announcement to make 150 redundancies
17 September 2008
Unite are extremely disappointed at today’s announcement by BAe Systems of 150 redundancies at their Integrated System Technologies (Insyte) business.
Bernie Hamilton, Unite National Officer, said: “It is concerning that a lack of orders will mean the loss of highly skilled engineers from this business.
“Unite is concerned that the loss of these experts will undermine the long term prospects of the business in securing new orders for radar and telecommunications equipment for the UK armed forces.
“We are particularly concerned with the level of cuts at the Hillend facility near Dunfermline, which will halve the Engineering Department. This will impact severely on Scotland’s ability to retain and attract young people to take up engineering as a future career. The loss of these jobs will also undoubtedly have an impact in attracting high quality engineers to Scotland.”
