'The book on the screen': Edexcel unveils its e-Spec

22 June 2007

Edexcel has devised an innovative way of bringing its 2008 A Level specifications to teachers.  An interactive onscreen version of the full specification, e-Spec also features interviews with senior examiners, a student guide and links to other support materials and websites.

The aim of e-Spec is for teachers to be able to quickly and easily navigate their way round the specification - directly to the pages most important and relevant to them - as well as being a tool for enabling discussion of the specification with students.

Anne Kiely of Lansdowne College, London said: "I'm excited about e-Spec.  It looks so user-friendly, I can't wait to use it."

e-Spec will be available for 18 of Edexcel's new A Level specifications and will be mailed to teachers, as a CD Rom inside the cover of the hard copy specification, in September 2007.

e-Spec is part of Edexcel's unprecedented support package for its new A Levels, which will include the free ResultsPlus service.  This summer, Edexcel will also be launching improved customer support provision that will be in place from September 2007.

Jerry Jarvis, Edexcel's Managing Director, said: "There are three things that Edexcel is committed to offering for its new A Level suite.  Firstly, innovative and engaging specifications; qualifications that young people will want to study.  Secondly, a comprehensive range of teacher and learner support that will revolutionise the way in which A Levels are taught and studied.  And thirdly, customer service.  Quality customer service - including access to subject experts - will be embedded in our education programme."
