Teacher assessments can be as reliable as tests, says ATL
16 May 2008
In response to the formal launch of Ofqual, the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator, and their announcement of a new programme of work to look at the reliability of assessment, Dr Mary Bousted, general secretary of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), said:
“Research shows that assessments by teachers can be as reliable as tests, if they are properly trained to carry them out.
“ATL looks forward to working with Ofqual on its health check but expects it to study further the potential savings in both time and money which could result from fewer examinations and the development of teacher assessment systems.”
