Spanish comes to life in language careers website
12 October 2006
A new language-specific area has been developed for the dedicated careers website, Languages Work and is launched today to celebrate Spain's National Day (Día de la Hispanidad).
Spanish is a major world language with an estimated 429,293,261 speakers and this number is rapidly growing, particularly in the US and Latin America. The new suite of resources makes the case to teachers, advisers, parents and learners (particularly teenagers) that Spanish skills can make you more employable.
The new Languages Work Spanish materials include a factsheet, posters and webpages to provide advice, facts and real examples of people using languages in their work to place language learning in context.
Isabella Moore, Director of CILT, the National Centre for Languages said, ‘The City of London has just published a report bemoaning the lack of skills, including languages, of UK graduates. We hope Languages Work Spanish will be the first of a number of language-specific initiatives to raise awareness and promote the value of language skills in the workplace.’
Languages Work Spanish has been developed in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy Consejería de Educación.
Materials are available to order free of charge via the Languages Work website www.languageswork.org.uk, which has also been updated to coincide with the launch.
