Single-plane airline takes on big names for top award
3 June 2008
Bournemouth-based airline Palmair, which owns just one aircraft, has been named as a contender for the Which? Best Airline Award alongside high profile long-haul carriers including Singapore Airlines.
Palmair has just one plane in its fleet and founder, Peter Bath famously waved off every plane from Bournemouth Airport until he died in 2006. It is shortlisted for the Which? Best Airline Award alongside Air New Zealand, India’s Jet Airways and Singapore Airlines, based on new research to be published in the July issue of Which? magazine.
The award winner will be announced on Tuesday 17 June at the Which? Awards ceremony, hosted by news presenter Dermot Murnaghan. Sir Stirling Moss OBE and top chef Heston Blumenthal will also present awards at the event, which was set up by consumer organisation Which? to celebrate the best products and services in the UK. The keynote speaker will be Shadow Chancellor, George Osborne.
Lorna Cowan, Editor, Which? Holiday, says:
“Palmair may be small, but it punches above its weight and proves that short-haul airlines really can keep their customers satisfied. We often hear about long delays and lost baggage, but the Which? Best Airline Award is about recognising those airlines that make getting to your destination an enjoyable part of the travel experience – where you can check-in with the minimum of fuss, there’s a decent in-flight service and the price is right, too.”*
*The criteria in the Best Airline Award category are:
-Overall customer satisfaction
-Satisfaction with cabin staff
-Satisfaction with check-in staff, baggage policies and seat allocation
-Satisfaction with cleanliness of aircraft
-Satisfaction with seat comfort and legroom
-Satisfaction with value for money
-Satisfaction with how the airline dealt with any delays
-Satisfaction with in flight catering and entertainment
