Scotland’s Forensic Scientists ready to consult on skills
23 April 2008
On Wednesday 30 April 2008, a record number of Scottish Forensic Scientists will meet at Dunblane Hydro for a large-scale consultation event on the future training and skills for the UK Forensic Science sector.
The event has been organised by the Scottish Police Service Authority’s Forensic Services, with support from Skills for Justice, the Sector Skills Council for UK Justice, who work with employers in the UK Justice Sector to ensure they have the right skills and staff to be productive, efficient and effective.
The focus of the day is to look at the training and skills needs of Forensic Scientists in the 21st century, and the development of new national occupational standards for employees within Forensic Science.
Tom Nelson, Director of the SPSA Forensic Services said:
“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Skills for Justice on the new National Occupational Standards. A high quality Forensic Service underpins the work of all 8 Scottish Police Forces and SPSA Forensic Services is committed to ensuring that our staff are fully equipped to meet the needs of Scotland’s Police Forces and the communities that they serve.
“In common with many professional disciplines, Forensic Science practitioners can not rest on their laurels when they qualify, they must keep abreast of the many developments in the Criminal Justice and Forensics sectors as well as in their own professional disciplines.”
Commenting on the event, Charles Welsh, Operations Manager for the Forensic Science Sector at Skills for Justice said:
“We are delighted and impressed by the interest, enthusiasm and commitment shown by the Forensic Science community in Scotland to these new National Occupational Standards.
“The new standards will ensure that Scotland’s Forensics Services and the staff who provide them meet the highest professional standards possible and the consultation will ensure that the standards themselves meet their needs as practitioners, now and in the future.”
