School children learn about recycling from the experts

Recycling is big news and a new interactive educational CD is helping schools teach children how they can do their bit to make the country more environmentally friendly.

Produced by Biffa Waste Services, the company providing domestic refuse and recycling collection services throughout the UK, the CD caters for primary and secondary school students and seeks to meet the increased demand from schools and community groups for information about waste and recycling.

“Environment issues are part of the schools national curriculum but there seems to be limited information available about waste,” said Biffa marketing executive, Liz Fenlon. “This interactive CD will mean that we now have information that can be made available to schools if and when they request it. And if that encourages a greater understanding about waste issues and participation in recycling services, then so much the better.”

The CD uses a number of animated characters made up from and named after recyclable materials such as glass, plastic, steel and aluminium that can help 6-11 year old children with their KS1&2 studies. It also includes interactive games, e-cards and quiz challenges. More detailed information is included to encourage older children and adults to take a more active interest in what happens to the waste that they create.

“It can also support site visits to our waste disposal facilities, including any one of our 29 operational landfill sites,” added Liz.
