RCGP response to BMA petition
12.06.08
RCGP Chairman Professor Steve Field said: “The RCGP supports the development of primary care. We also support the development of GP surgeries, where needed. We call upon local Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) to work with local GPs to provide high quality care to extend their services where appropriate, rather than go out into the open market which might result in further fragmentation of local care.
"The RCGP also calls upon PCTs and local GPs to safeguard local services now by implementing the RCGP's federated model of general practice. Under the federated model, GPs and their practice teams work closely together to provide more services for patients closer to their homes.”
More information on the Federated Model can be found in the RCGP landmark document The Future Direction of General Practice: a Roadmap
