PAT welcomes investment in school sport
13 July 2007
The Professional Association of Teachers (PAT) has welcomed the investment in school sport announced today (13 July 2007).
Philip Parkin, PAT's General Secretary, said: “We welcome this major investment and the National School Sport Strategy. It is important that we invest in school sport, both as an important activity in itself and to improve children's health and well-being.
"This initiative offers opportunities for wider community involvement and is very reliant on volunteers and sports coaches for support. I hope that this significant financial investment will find its way to the heart of community sports development.
“ I also hope that this will be a long-term priority that will fit in with the rest of an already crowded curriculum, rather than a headline-grabbing, short-lived initiative ahead of the London Olympics.”
