PAT STATEMENT ON 2020 VISION REPORT
4 January 2007
Commenting on 2020 Vision: Report of the Teaching and Learning in 2020 Review Group published on 4 January 2007, PAT General Secretary Philip Parkin said: "PAT welcomes the report and its findings, but feels that it reflects much of what already happens now instead of being a radical vision for the future.
"We had hoped for fewer statements of the obvious and for more challenging ideas and more detail.
"The identification of the challenges ahead are clear and accurate, and the aspirations for the best possible education and chances in life for all our children are fine and noble and few would disagree with them, but are nothing new.
"We welcome the recognition that schools cannot 'close the gap' alone and that there are wider social and economic issues to be tackled.
"There are unanswered questions such as how standard national curriculum tests fit in with personalised learning.
"It seems that the vision of the future is more of the same and yet more reports to come."
