OU Business School offers global opportunities to fellow academics
3 April 2008
The OU Business School has launched a new academic scholarship programme to support knowledge sharing across the globe. The International Fellowships programme will enable overseas academics to spend between three and six months at the OU Business School, based at The Open University’s main campus in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom. The overseas academics will work alongside distinctive Research Units, which make a major contribution to the intellectual life of the School and feed directly into its world-leading teaching programmes.
The scheme is open to applicants from all countries, particularly those in developing and transition countries. Fellows will benefit from the School’s unique approach to academic research, pedagogic innovation and collaborative partnerships, which can be transferred back to their home institution on completion of the Fellowship.
The OU Business School is set to gain from the knowledge and experience that academics will bring from their home institution and it is anticipated that there will be continued engagement following the completion of the programme, ensuring long-term benefits for all participants. The School also hopes to develop an international network of academics committed to the development of good practice in researching, developing and delivering management education and learning.
James Fleck, Dean of the OU Business School, said: “The OU Business School is committed to engaging with both academic and corporate communities around the world and our International Fellowships programme provides an ideal way to support this. By sharing knowledge and good practice with individuals from international institutions, our methodology of practice-based learning can be strengthened and extended and we can help develop similar systems overseas. Today’s society is truly global, and we see the need for education to move forward to reflect that, extending beyond geographic boundaries and enabling more companies and individuals to learn.”
Applications are accepted all year round, with selection taking place in January, May and October. Applicants should be graduates and permanently resident outside the United Kingdom; holding either a permanent post at an accredited university or engaged in the formation and delivery of educational policy. Further details about the scheme, including application forms, are available on the OU Business School website, or can be requested via an email to oubs-fellowships@open.ac.uk.
