Press Release
Olympic Swimmers To Face Rome Challenge
4th June 2008
Britain's Olympic swimmers will undergo a thorough international test this week at the Seven Hills meet in Rome which for many will be their final overseas event before the Beijing Olympics.
The majority of Britain's selected Olympic swimmers will be in action from tomorrow through to Sunday as the event forms the second of the squad's three stage preparation towards Beijing.
According to Women's Head Coach Ben Titley, the Rome event will provide the team with an ideal opportunity to gauge the direction of their hard work since the Olympic trials at the end of March.
"Everyone is in training towards the main goal but the swimmers will be in Rome to race and give the best possible performance at this stage of their season," said Titley.
"It's a good opportunity to swim in a high quality event and face many of those who will be there in Beijing. At this stage of the year it's all about preparation but the British squad will be looking to swim as well as they possibly can and analyse areas where improvements can be made.
"For our relays, the meet offers a great chance to build that unique bond between them and to practice once more the skills needed."
Many of the swimmers will travel to Sardenia and Canet following the event for training camps as they continue to work towards the Games.
