Older people's role in society should be recognised and celebrated, says Help the Aged
30 September, 2008
Ahead of UK Older People’s Day on 1st October, celebrating the contribution older people make to our society and economy, Paul Cann, Director of Policy for Help the Aged, says:
“It’s great that we’re acknowledging older people are full of life – all too often the huge contribution older people can make to society, both here and internationally, is overlooked.
“We should all be striving for a society where older people are valued members of the communities we live in. Just like everyone else, older people deserve equal treatment, respect and dignity.
“The Government has rightly committed to ensuring age discrimination will become illegal – what we need now is a timetable for action. Similarly, we need to ensure our communities cater for the needs of all older people so they have the opportunity to live life to the full. If we get the basics right, the UK will be much a happier place – for all generations.”
