Press Release
Ofqual reports on the summer 2009 examinations
20 November 2009
Ofqual has today published a report on the delivery of this summer's GCSE, A level and Diploma qualifications in England.
As the regulator of qualifications and exams in England, Ofqual produces this report as part of its work to ensure that appropriate standards are established and maintained, and that systems work effectively.
Kathleen Tattersall, Chair of Ofqual, said: "The summer 2009 exam season was successful for many learners who achieved excellent results. I was fortunate enough to experience first hand the reactions of students who were receiving their results and was able to congratulate them on their achievements.
"Several new and revised qualifications were awarded for the first time. These included revised AS level qualifications and the principal learning and project qualifications in the Diploma.
"I can assure learners, their families, employers and providers of further and higher education that examinations were well delivered this year and that standards are being maintained."
Today Ofqual is also publishing additional commentary on GCSE Science, including data from 2008 and 2009 on predictions and qualification outcomes.
