NORTH WALES CONSTRUCTION COMPANY WINS RoSPA GOLD SAFETY AWARD

15 May 2007

A North Wales construction company has beaten off tough competition from a host of national construction firms to scoop one of the industry's most sought after health and safety accolades.

Based in Denbighshire, Wynne Construction received the prestigious gold standard from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). The award, which recognises health and safety excellence in the workplace, was presented at the Hilton Hotel in Birmingham as part of a ceremony attended by XXX people.

Managing director, Chris Wynne, picked up the award after impressing the judges with his business' health and safety culture and outstanding control of risk.

Chris Wynne said: "The latest statistics from the Heath and Safety Executive show that 200 people were killed in accidents at work with six million days lost through workplace injury. We're committed to helping reduce this number.

“To be recognised with a Gold RoSPA award is fantastic, especially on our first submission. Health and safety is crucial to every construction firm and we hope that this award encourages a wider development of strategies to safeguard employees.”

David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager said “Wynne Construction has demonstrated how seriously they take health and safety management and are a fine example to many other companies.  We would like to see more organisations following their lead.”

In his other role as chairman of the National Federation of Builders (NFB) in Wales, Chris Wynne is spearheading the organisation's 'Stay Safe, Stay Away' campaign. The initiative is part of the NFB's health and safety drive to keep children away from building sites during the school summer holidays.

Simon Lovell-Jones, director at the NFB in Wales, explained: "As an NFB member, Wynne Construction stands for quality and innovation. Chris has worked tirelessly to support our latest health and safety campaign, while also driving an occupational health and safety programme within his own firm which stands as a benchmark for other firms in Wales.

"This latest award is the result of a great deal of effort and the business certainly deserves all the credit it receives."
