Duncan Whitfield has been appointed as the new finance director at Southwark Council, taking over from interim finance director Eleanor Kelly.
He joins Southwark from Westminster City Council, where he was an assistant director of finance.
With over twenty five years of experience in local government finance, Duncan will be taking forward Southwark's finance department at a time of major change for the council, with on-going regeneration projects worth millions of pounds, a new customer service centre and ambitious waste and recycling plans.
Duncan Whitield, Finance Director at Southwark Council, said: "I am extremely pleased to begin working for Southwark Council at a time when so many exciting changes are taking place and when the council continues to be recognised for its strides in improving and developing services to the community.
"I believe finance should be seen as a facilitator and enabler for delivery of the full range of complex and demanding services that Southwark provides; my main challenge is to ensure that resources remain available and are fairly distributed."
