LESLIE HILLMAN APPOINTED REGIONAL CHAIRMAN OF BUILDERS GROUP

15 June 2007

The boss of Epsom-based LJH Building Refurbishment Maintenance has been appointed regional chairman of trade body the National Federation of Builders (NFB).

Leslie Hillman, who has been a member of the NFB for 13 years, takes over from Michael Jones – head of Ellis Building Contractor Ltd.

Established in 1992, the family-run business specialises in refurbishing, maintaining and decorating domestic premises and commercial properties across the south of England.

Commenting on the appointment, Leslie said: “Today’s construction industry is almost unrecognisable from when I first joined it. The NFB has actively helped contractors like us embrace that change, ensuring we continue to play an active role in our chosen markets, specifically through training and advisory services.

“The industry continues to witness unprecedented change - with newer issues like sustainability, waste management and zero carbon construction posing a challenge for thousands of firms. This is why the organisation is as relevant today as it was when I first joined it. Only by accessing dedicated support can the industry help to tackle these issues and evolve their businesses.”

The NFB represents small and medium sized contractors in England and Wales. It recently reported its strongest set of financial results to date, delivering an eight per cent growth in sales to more than £3.5m for the 12 months to December 2006. It operates a regional network of seven offices and employs 40 staff.

The Federation, which was established 15 years ago, is the largest constituent member of the Construction Confederation. Its roots date back to the late 19th century when it was founded as one of the first employer’s organisations for construction.
