Law Commission welcomes new Commissioner

The Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, Jack Straw, today announced the appointment of Professor Elizabeth Cooke to the post of Law Commissioner.
Professor Cooke will take over from Mr. Stuart Bridge. Mr. Bridge’s tenure as a Law Commissioner ends on 2 July 2008.
Law Commission Chairman, Sir Terence Etherton, said “Stuart Bridge has made an outstanding contribution to law reform over the past 8 years as the Law Commissioner for England and Wales leading on Property, Trust and Family Law projects. We extend our sincere gratitude and best wishes to him for the future.
At the same time, we are delighted to welcome Professor Elizabeth Cooke as his successor. Professor Cooke, who is Professor of Law at Reading University, has a high reputation for her expertise in a range of legal areas, particularly in the field of family and property law.”
Professor Cooke’s appointment lasts for 5 years from 3 July 2008.
