The Terrace, House of Commons, Wednesday 4 June
Report launch of ‘Costing the Future: Securing Value for Money through Sustainable Procurement’
Speakers to include Peter Ainsworth MP, Shadow Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, William Jordan, Deputy Chief Executive, OGC & David Kidney MP.
On the Terrace on Wednesday 4th June, the Westminster Sustainable Business Forum, part of Policy Connect Sustainability, will launch a report into sustainable procurement. The product of a year-long series of inquiry sessions, it examines in detail the barriers to sustainable procurement and alongside examples of best practice.
David Kidney MP, Inquiry Co-Chair, who will speak at the launch, said:
"The public sector has enormous purchasing power and has a crucial role to play in raising environmental and social standards, encouraging innovation and stimulating the market to provide new technological solutions for a more sustainable built environment.
"Whilst the Government has recognised that it must use the procurement process to lead by example, progress has been patchy.
"Though there have been encouraging steps towards embedding sustainability in the procurement process, there must be no complacency. We need implementation at every level of government and this inquiry report provides key recommendations for how we can make this happen."
