Health Professions Council meeting agenda summary

The Council meeting will be held at the Vale Hotel, Hensol Park, Hensol, near Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan, CF72 8JY.

A summary of decisions will be made available on the HPC's website within fifteen working days of the meeting.

Review of the standards of proficiency for operating department practitioners

The Council will consider and agree the text of a draft consultation document on the review of the profession-specific standards for operating department practitioners.

Applied psychologists: Threshold level of qualification for entry to the register

The Council will be asked to consider the proposed threshold level of qualification which would allow applied psychologists to be registered, if the profession became regulated by the Council. The Council will also consider the text of a draft consultation document on the proposal.

Fitness to Practise

The Council will be asked to review the indicative sanctions practice note (which sets out the policy on sanctions which could be applied in fitness to practise cases), an updated prosecutions policy for protection of title and standards for advocates who present fitness to practise cases to panels on behalf of HPC.

Council Awayday

The Council will hold its annual strategic awayday on the afternoon of 3 October and on 4 October. The awayday will consider the issues and challenges affecting HPC and review changes to governance arrangements proposed in the white paper (Trust, assurance and safety: The regulation of healthcare professionals in the 21st century). The awayday is not open to the public but a summary of discussions will be reported to the next meeting of the Council on 13 December 2007.
