Press Release
Guide to promoting languages to teenagers now available
16 January 2008
CILT, the National Centre for Languages is delighted to announce January's publication of the Languages Work activity guide, a new resource providing advice, information and support for anyone wanting to inspire students to think about careers in languages.
Schools using assemblies, careers days, options evenings and class time to demonstrate the benefits of continued language learning report that these events are successful in increasing take-up of languages in KS4 and beyond. Languages Work materials can be used in all of these situations to support the message that languages will be a lasting asset to students.
Priced at £12, the Activity Guide is tailored towards careers advisers, languages teachers, business speakers, student Language Ambassadors and volunteers. Linking with careers guidance and tailored to the needs of different age groups, from Key Stage 3 to post-16, it contains photocopiable materials to use with the resources in the Languages Work range along with suggestions for follow-on activities.
The guide also provides more general advice on engaging parents, presenting to audiences of different sizes and dealing with frequently asked questions, as well as advice on encouraging students to engage independently with both print and web-based media.
The Languages Work activity guide is an invaluable resource that will help anyone working to promote languages to exploit the full potential of the Languages Work resources, including the website, activity and fact sheets, postcards, posters, PowerPoint presentations and CD-ROM.
CILT is currently offering a special 15% discount on all its titles until 31 January. For more information on the Languages Work activity guide visit: www.cilt.org.uk/publications/languageswork
