Former trade union leader to meet with Unite reps

Living legend of the trade union movement and former General Secretary of the Transport and General Workers' Union, Jack Jones will be visiting the home of the Mini production to meet with the plant’s Unite representatives at BMW’s Oxford plant tomorrow (Tuesday 2nd September).
A leading figure of the union movement Jack Jones, now aged 95, became General Secretary of the TGWU in 1968 and under his leadership the union grew to be over two-million members strong, the largest trade union ever seen in Britain.
Unite Regional Officer, Fred Hanna, who will accompany Jack on his visit said: “Jack has a longstanding relationship with this plant and it will be great for our reps to meet him. The Oxford plant has over 6000 Unite members and Jack will be meeting some of the 60 Unite reps on site.”
The media are invited to meet with Jack Jones from 1:30pm – 2:30pm on Tuesday 2 September at Plant Oxford.
