Former finance mogul to speak at IET's free London lecture

This year John Carey, former head of strategy, business & IT and interim cto, Lloyds TSB will be speaker at the annual IET Pinkerton Lecture*. Entitled "IT - is it on the money?", the lecture will address the economic, commercial, societal and managerial issues raised by the widespread use of novel technology.

Carey will discuss IT's contribution to the downfall of the economy, specifically within the finance sector. He will also look at the challenges ahead, possible solutions and new and emerging IT organisational structures, policies and systems, in the midst of a recession and global financial crisis. The event will include a Q&A session and a short media presentation by senior executives from: Lloyds Banking Group; Skandia; RBS; Bar Cap and Northern Rock.

The lecture is held in memory of John Pinkerton who built the first business computer for J Lyons & Co, previously one of the largest catering and food manufacturing companies in the world.

Past speakers have included: Sir Tim Berners-Lee, creator of the World Wide Web (2007) and Alex Balfour, head of New Media, LOCOG (2008).
