Eye Health Alliance appointed as Vice-Chair of the Health Hotel

17 January 2008

The Eye Health Alliance has been appointed as Vice-Chair of the Health Hotel, a collaborative venture which organises a series of events at the political party conferences. The Health Hotel is an important part of the conference fringe and has a high reputation amongst political circles. Their events are attended by health ministers and health spokespeople, adding to and influencing the debate on health policy.

The Alliance becomes Vice-Chair for 2008 and will automatically be appointed as Chair for 2009. This will ensure that the eye care sector is driving forward the debate at a key time in the political calendar. As Public Affairs Adviser to the Alliance, Heather Marshall takes up a seat on the Health Hotel Board. “This is a fantastic opportunity for the whole sector which will raise our profile amongst key decision makers and the health community.”

David Hewlett, Chief Executive of FODO said;

“This is an important milestone in getting eye health further up the political and NHS agenda. This is a great achievement which would have been unimaginable two years ago. ”

Sir Anthony Garrett, Secretary General of ABDO said;
“ABDO is delighted with the profile that the Eye Health Alliance has achieved at the party conferences through participation within the Health Hotel. Taking a leading role over the next two years will further enhance our ability to promote the importance of eyecare to key opinion formers. It is another major step forward.”

Bob Hughes, Chief Executive of the AOP said;
“This is a great achievement for the sector.  At a crucial time we have positioned optometry and optics at the heart of health thinking as we run up to the General Election which will increase our ability to influence and shape eye care policy.”
