Press Release
Every Child a Writer and Every Child Counts
2 September 2008
Commenting on the Governments initiative to help struggling pupils with the Three R’s Christine Blower, Acting General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, Europe’s largest teaching union said; “The Government’s one-to-one reading, writing and mathematics schemes are welcome but they must be the first step not the last in individual tuition.
“Every teacher knows that there are children in their classes who could benefit from one- to- one tuition at critical times in their school lives.
“Schools have long needed sufficient qualified teachers to enable personal tuition to be focused on those children who may have learning blocks or who, perhaps because of home circumstances, lack their class mates’ confidence to learn”.
