DOH ANNOUNCEMENT ON WAITING TIMES FOR DIAGNOSIS
31st March 2006
In answer to the Department of Health's announcement reducing the average waiting time for scanning appointments to 16 weeks, please find enclosed comment from the British In Vitro Diagnostics Association.
"Diagnostics have consistently been blamed for the length of time taken from consultation to treatment but in general, this is simply not the case. Pressure on scanners remains high, but the majority of all diagnostic tests are completed in three days and the technology now exists for many of the most common tests to be conducted at health clinics or GP's surgeries. Getting the right treatment to patients as quickly as possible must remain the focus of NHS investment."
