DOES YOUR CARBON FOOTRPINT LOOK BIG IN THIS…?
In the Attlee Suite on Tuesday (22nd April), Angela Watkinson MP will be leading a debate on the future of sustainable clothing. Presentations will be given by key stakeholders including Dr. Dorothy Maxwell, Sustainable Clothing Roadmap Leader at Defra, Professor Stephen Russell, Professor of Textiles Materials and Technology, University of Leeds, Nicholas Morley, Director of Sustainable Innovation, Oakdene Hollins Ltd and Lucy Drage, Fabric Development and Sustainability Manager, J Sainsbury Ltd.
Organised by the Associate Parliamentary Sustainable Resource Group, which is managed by Policy Connect Environment, the event will take place from 4.15 – 6.00 pm.
Barry Sheerman MP, Co-Chair of the APSRG said,
"The issue of sustainable clothing is of great environmental concern. Clothing is the fastest growing stream of household waste yet, 63% of the clothes consumed in the UK each year end up in landfill. This throwaway culture is clearly not sustainable - we need to look at the complete supply chain, making sure our clothing becomes more durable and less disposable."
This event will discuss the issues surrounding the clothing sustainability agenda.
