Press Release

Corrugated Recycling and Landfill Prevention

The Confederation of Paper Industries is pleased to announce the release of its new fact sheet, “Corrugated Recycling & Landfill Prevention”.

The release adds to CPI’s array of 18 existing fact sheets, and compliments its two established corrugated information publications, “A Case for Corrugated” and “Corrugated: Key Facts”.

The consumer-focussed fact sheet explores the place of corrugated cardboard within the waste hierarchy, examining the waste management options which exist within all five levels.

It offers constructive advice to would-be recyclers, and highlights the best use of used corrugated cardboard.

As well as taking the opportunity to reinforce corrugated cardboard’s excellent environmental credentials, the fact sheet builds upon CPI’s established ‘Corrugated Recycles’ promotional campaign.

The campaign aims to raise the profile of corrugated packaging through the use of a distinctive on-product logo, and highlights key environmental messages and statistics such as: corrugated cardboard has a recycling rate of 84% in the UK;
this is the highest recycling rate of any type of packaging in the UK;
as a direct result, every four months an area the size of Greater London is saved from landfill.

All of CPI’s fact sheets are available from the Information Publications section of the CPI website, http://www.paper.org.uk/info/factsheets/factsheets.htm.
