CII acknowledges 'magnificent seven'

04 May 2006

The Chartered Insurance Institute has announced that it has recognised the outstanding contribution of seven individuals to the insurance and financial services industry by granting them Honorary Fellowship (Hon. FCII) of the Institute.

Fellowship is the highest professional status that the CII can confer and in the past decade the CII has only used the facility to award Honorary Fellowships on one previous occasion.

CII President Peter Hales says, “In the modern financial services world it is essential that the CII acknowledge the exceptional efforts of distinguished industry figures. Honorary Fellowship allows us to mark their participation and, as importantly, encourage them to play a leading role in the CII’s affairs.

“Honorary Fellowship is not granted lightly and appointments are only made against very strict criteria. All of those nominated for this award are recognised and respected industry leaders or leading experts and authorities in their chosen field. Between them they have all demonstrated their commitment to the CII’s vision of raising professionalism and enhancing consumer confidence in the financial services industry.”

The seven new Honorary Fellows are:

Lord Levene of Portsoken KBE – Chairman, Lloyd’s
Sir David Prosser – Former Group Chief Executive, Legal & General
Ken Davy – Chairman, Simply Biz Services plc
Fay Goddard – Deputy Director General, AIFA
Stewart Ritchie OBE – Director (Pensions Development), Scottish Equitable plc
Keith Satchell – Group Chief Executive, Friends Provident & Chairman, ABI
Chris Woodburn – Former Chief Executive, General Insurance Standards Council.

In accepting his award Ken Davy said, “I can think of no greater honour in what we are now able to refer to as our profession than that of Honorary Fellowship of the CII.”

The CII is able to grant a limited number of Honorary Fellowships. The appointments are made by the CII Council on the recommendation of its specially constituted Honorary Fellowship Assessment Board (chaired by the Chairman of the Professional Standards Board).
