Awarding Bodies’ Partnership is Good News for Schools

18 December 2007

Awarding bodies the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA), and Edexcel, have created a partnership that aims to support schools in meeting the requirements of the Entitlement Framework in Northern Ireland.

The Entitlement Framework states that all schools must offer pupils access to a minimum of 24 courses at Key Stage 4, 27 at post-16, with at least one third of these courses general and at least one third applied.

Speaking at the signing, CCEA Chief Executive, Neil Anderson commented,

“This new arrangement allows CCEA to widen its portfolio of qualifications to include BTEC First and National qualifications. These are specialist, work-specific qualifications aimed at 14-16 and 16 plus learners.

Schools will have access to these qualifications with local support provided by a dedicated team of CCEA staff who are on hand to provide expert advice and guidance to teachers.

We look forward to supporting schools in Northern Ireland as they work towards meeting the requirements of the Entitlement Framework.”

Jerry Jarvis, Chief Executive, Edexcel commented:

“BTEC First and National qualifications are world class qualifications and are widely recognised. They prepare learners for entering the work environment as well as for progression into further education.

Our partnership with CCEA creates a great opportunity for schools that are committed to offering their students maximum choice of qualifications to suit their individual needs”

The new arrangements will be implemented from September 2008.
