ATL Comment On The Review Of Maths In Primary Schools
17 June 2008
Dr Mary Bousted, general secretary of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), said:
“We are pleased there is a focus on making maths relevant, enjoyable and including learning through play.
“We support financial incentives for those who do intensive training, and we look forward to working with the Government on the detail of these incentives.
“Although we see the benefits of ‘maths champions’ we believe schools must be able to determine what will work best for them, and worry this heralds the beginning of a slide towards champions for what ever is this week’s pet subject.”
