ATL Comment On Terms Of Review Into National Curriculum Tests
16 July 2008
Alison Ryan, education policy adviser at the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), said:
“Although we are pleased Ofqual is going to review this year’s national curriculum tests, we believe the Government should go further and carry out an in-depth study into the impact of national key stage testing on our education system.
“However, while we have the current system of national testing it is vital it is carried out as effectively as possible within its own narrow parameters.
“We hope the review will accept evidence from all those affected by testing – schools, teachers, pupils, parents, and markers – so that lessons are learnt from this year’s experiences to ensure the shambolic chaos never happens again.”
