ATL Comment On Lords Economic Affairs Committee Report On The National Apprenticeship Scheme
10 July 2008
Martin Freedman, head of pay, conditions and pensions at the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), said:
“We have always been highly dubious about splitting the Department for Education into two – which has been particularly problematic for post 16 education.
“We agree with the Committee that the Train to Gain brokers should be phased out because the money could be better spent on training rather than going to middlemen.
“We would like a more coherent framework of post 14 qualifications which incorporates apprenticeships so employers, FE and HE colleges have a better idea about what the various qualifications provide and it is easier for students to work out which training will be best for them.”
