ACCA announces UK Sustainability Reporting Awards shortlist

ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) today announces the 15 finalists for its prestigious annual UK Awards for Sustainability Reporting.
The shortlist presents a wide range of sector industries, including mining, oil and telecommunications. The pharmaceutical and utilities sector as well as social enterprises are also represented.
The ACCA judging panel, consisting of a wide range of stakeholder views and all experts in sustainability reporting, will be reviewing the short list in October to select the winners.
The results will be announced at the Awards presentation ceremony to be held on December 13 2007, from 10.30am until 1.30pm at the British Library.
The keynote speakers will be Stephen Timms, Minister of State (Competitiveness), Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform – previously he was Minister of State for Energy – and Sir Michael Peat, private secretary to HRH Prince of Wales who is participating in the Prince of Wales Accounting for Sustainability project of which ACCA is a member. The event will be followed by a Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) event in the afternoon at the same venue.
Roger Adams, executive director – technical at ACCA said: “The broad range of companies in this year’s shortlist highlights the fact that reporting activities openly and honestly is becoming the norm. The diversity of organisational types and sectors demonstrates that reporting on sustainability is starting to move towards the forefront of everybody’s business strategy.”

The reporting theme for this year’s event is ‘Disclosures on sustainability strategy and governance’ and ACCA’s theme partner, who is carrying out research into this topic, is Tomorrow’s Company. Mark Goyder, the organisation’s director will present the findings at December’s ceremony.
